Jesus died for seasons like this, and he has not called us to be consumers of the good life or architects of our careers or opinionated ideologues of one political stripe or another. He has called us to be agents of reconciliation, to work and pray and sacrifice until the day finally comes, as Isaiah prophesied, when people will “neither harm nor destroy on all of God’s holy mountain, and the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea.” (Is 11:9)
